Derek McInnes outlines Rangers' title 'ambition', details three crucial factors

Derek McInnes has outlined his Rangers title "ambition", ahead of the Scottish Premiership's return this weekend.

The 55-year-old, who was minutes away from winning the league with Hearts last season, has replaced Danny Rohl in the Ibrox dugout, tasked with the challenge of winning the league for his former side as manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports, McInnes described what will be required for his side to be competing for silverware this season. "Rangers, for long periods [last season], were in the running for a few months," he said.

"We know there are performances here that can win games, so we’ve just got to try and get to our level more often. Individually, you see a lot of players whose reach and levels are really high at times, and we’ve got to try and make sure that we get that more often than not.

"As a team, we’ve got to try and treat each game with the same importance, and hopefully we can get off to a good start. I think it’s important that we get off to a good start; we’ve not had that for a few seasons at Rangers, particularly that opening game.

"I think trying to build confidence, momentum, and belief is key."

On the forthcoming title race, McInnes continued, "I think the fans are desperate to get behind something, and we’ve got to earn that trust with performances week in, week out.

"If the team can gain confidence as we go along, then I don’t see any reason why we can’t have that ambition to go and win a title this season.

"It’s easier said than done, but the work we do Monday to Friday and the work we do week in, week out is going to be so important."
