Derek McInnes makes plea to the SFA ahead of disciplinary hearing

Derek McInnes has urged the SFA to consider "mitigating circumstances" at his disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

The Aberdeen boss was sent off for responding to Celtic fans' chants branding him a "sad Orange b*****d during his side's 3-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat at Hampden.

McInnes still regrets responding to the abuse but has sent a message to the governing body before going before a panel at the national stadium later today.

The hearing has been brought forward from Friday at McInnes' request as he wishes to attend the funeral of Hoops legend Billy McNeill.

The Dons gaffer said: "I wish I hadn't responded but I also feel there were a lot of real mitigating circumstances.

"Hopefully, that gets looked at. I'm just keen to get it resolved."

McInnes has previously insisted that other managers had responded to taunts from the terraces without facing punishment.

He said in April: “There have been other instances when managers have reacted and there have not been sending-offs or hearings.

"I am actually looking forward to the hearing and hearing what has to be said. I have a few things I want to say myself."

Neil Lennon's side can wrap up their eighth straight Premiership crown with a point at Pittodrie on Saturday but McInnes has joined stars Max Lowe and Lewis Ferguson in telling the Hoops to forget about a title party.

Aberdeen will miss out on a second-placed finish for the first time since 2014 following defeat to Rangers last weekend but their manager insists they remain determined to nail down third.

McInnes added: "We clearly have work to do to satisfy our own needs.

"We could do with a couple of wins from our final three games. We don't have any thoughts other than gains for ourselves.

"Celtic will be eager to get it done as quickly as possible, but for our own objectives, we're trying to make sure they celebrate next week."
