Derek McInnes laments Rangers 'missed opportunity' as Steven Gerrard Brondby thought process predicted

Former Rangers star Derek McInnes insists the Ibrox club will be disappointed with their 1-1 draw away to Brondby in the Europa League.

Leon Balogun's own goal handed the Danish side the lead but substitute Ianis Hagi levelled after half-time to seal a point in Group A.

Rangers and Sparta Prague are level on four points after the latter's defeat to Lyon - who wrapped up top spot in the group with their victory.

Brondby meanwhile are on two points and face an uphill fight to finish second.

McInnes believes Balogun could have done more to prevent Rangers going behind - but the performance as a whole won't leave anyone happy.

"We can talk about tactics and shape all day, but one thing that must be a guarantee is defending your set-plays," McInnes said on BT Sport.

"I thought Balogun could have adjusted himself better and it was a scruffy one for Rangers to lose just before half-time.

"I don't think the manager liked what he saw at the start of the second half. He made positive changes and Rangers deservedly won the second half.

"But they haven't managed to get that second goal which would have got them an all-important three points.

"I think Steven Gerrard will see that as a real missed opportunity. I think he fancied them tonight. Rangers have a better level of player than Brondby and that's why it's a missed opportunity."
