Derek McInnes issues appeal to Celtic as Aberdeen's Europa League dream hangs in the balance

Derek McInnes hopes Celtic can do a number on Hearts at Hampden to secure Europa League football for Aberdeen.

The Dons had to settle for a fourth-placed finish in the Premiership – despite beating Hibs.

But they will qualify for the Europa League for a sixth successive season if the Hoops deny the Jambos a Scottish Cup victory on Saturday.

The Aberdeen boss said: “It’s so important for us, European football – and I’ve taken pride in us having that every year.

“This will be our lowest points tally, 67, but we’ve gone to the last game of the season again.

“I’ve just got to hope that Celtic do their job.”

Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom suffered his first home league defeat and will now rebuild for next term.

But he will do it without Mark Milligan after cutting the veteran Aussie loose.

Heckingbottom said: “Mark Milligan, that was a killer for me and it hurt.

“There’s a break in Mark’s contract and we just took advantage of that really.

“It’s harsh on him but in all honesty I want to recruit something different to play in that position.”
