Derek McInnes handed ban for reaction to Celtic fans' 'sad Orange b*****d' chants

Derek McInnes has been given a one-match immediate ban after being sent off for his reaction to sectarian abuse at the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The Aberdeen boss was subjected to chants of "sad Orange b*****d" from Celtic fans during his side's 3-0 defeat at Hampden in April.

He will now miss Saturday's visit of Celtic and has also received an additional one-game rap, suspended until the end of next season.

Ref Craig Thomson, on advice from his fourth official, ordered McInnes to the stand after dismissing Dons No.2 Tony Docherty at the break.

Docherty accepted a one-game suspension but McInnes opted to go in front of a panel that has now decided his actions merited punishment.

The 47-year-old, who initially believed he was wrong to react, had admitted he was looking forward to attending as there were a few things he wanted to get off his chest.

His comments suggested he would defend himself on the grounds other managers have reacted to abuse from the terraces and were not hauled into a disciplinary.

He said in April: "I am actually looking forward to the hearing and hearing what has to be said. I have a few things I want to say myself.

“On the day, I was disappointed I reacted.

“There have been other instances when managers have reacted and there have not been sending-offs or hearings.”

Dom Ball and Lewis Ferguson were also dismissed on a miserable day for the Dons at the national stadium.
