Derek McInnes fires Rangers warning as Aberdeen extend fine run of form

Derek McInnes admits Rangers are a better team than Aberdeen with better players - but says the Dons can still take them out on Wednesday night.

They stretched their run of form to 13 points from 15 with their 2-1 win over St Mirren , Niall McGinn’s winner the 500th goal of the manager’s six-and-a-half year reign.

Now they’re looking to reel in the six-point gap from third spot to the Gers and Celtic at the top.

And McInnes said:"We have one defeat in eight now, against Celtic, four wins out of the last five. The draw against St Johnstone last week we should have won.

“Since that Celtic defeat we have knuckled down and got on with the job in hand. The application of the players has been much better and much needed.

“Now we face one of the strongest teams in the country, because Rangers and Celtic are playing at such a good level at the minute.

“Rangers are a better team than us, they have better players but we can win the game. It is important my players believe that when they go out there, that we can do so much well in the game that we can get close to what we want."
