Derek McInnes faces worrying Aberdeen precedent as form guide lays fan anxieties bare

A revealing stat has shed new light on why a section of the Aberdeen support are keen to see manager Derek McInnes move on.

Across their last five matches, the Granite City side haven't scored a single goal despite throwing new man Florian Kamberi into the mix against St Mirren on Saturday in a 0-0 draw.

Fraser Hornby and Callum Hendry also arrived on loan to replace Sam Cosgrove this month after the striker was sold but none of the fresh signings have found the net so far.

There have also been four goals conceded in that time, with the Dons' total of three points arriving by way of three goalless draws.

That leaves them 11th in the form table when only the last five matches are taken into consideration.

The only side below them is Kilmarnock - who saw fit to bin Alex Dyer as manager and replace him with former St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright.

Even Hamilton are above McInnes' men in the form table, as they rose to 11th in the actual Scottish Premiership following their 4-1 derby day mauling of Motherwell.

There's no suggestion the Pittodrie side will be down there struggling any time soon.

And McInnes' achievements of seven straight European spots plus a League Cup win in 2014 can't be forgotten easily.

But the stark statistic points to why a section of the Aberdeen fanbase have been angry regarding recent performances - and why the manager must work to win back their support.

The Pittodrie club this week threw their support behind McInnes in a statement, while a positive banner was waiting for his side as they turned up at the ground on Saturday afternoon.
