Derek McInnes claims Aberdeen boo boys would still be out in force even if he steered Dons to Scottish Cup glory

Under-fire Derek McInnes claims he could lead Aberdeen to third and Scottish Cup glory and it STILL wouldn’t be enough to win over some of the Pittodrie boo boys.

The experienced boss, who takes his team to Hamilton on Tuesday night, has seen sections of his own support call for his head in the midst of their five-game goal-less run.

McInnes insists regardless of what he has done over the past seven years there are going to be some fans who will never be happy.

McInnes said: “There will still be some supporters, who for, if we finish third and have a brilliant cup run, it might not be enough.

“You’re never going to keep everybody happy, I get that.

“I believe finishing third, the way the Old Firm are at the minute, and having a really strong cup run, we lost on penalties at Hearts, it can help with how people perceive our league form.

“Even when we’re doing really well, you’re never going to please everybody.

That is the way it is for managers.

“But supporters need to see a bit more at the minute and I get the frustration.

“They need to be more convinced by some of the performances and it’s been like that for a while.”

Aberdeen have gone 454 minutes without a goal and their last strike from open play came 639 minutes ago.

McInnes still believes he has the backing of a lot of the Aberdeen support and is fired up to turn the club’s ailing seasons around. He knows a win at Accies could be the start and see them return to third spot ahead of Motherwell.

He admitted: “Hopefully, we can get that confidence back in the team and that connection with the supporters again – get that belief back in from the support towards the team.

“Hopefully, we can go and finish the season strongly. I still believe it’s worth working towards.

“I need to say I can also understand the frustration, the Aberdeen boss claimed.

“I’m frustrated watching the team at the moment, I’m frustrated with not scoring more goals. I totally understand.

“I take heart and encouragement that there is still a good level of support out there for the team, desperate for us to do well.

“If we can get moving and winning again, that support will come with us and be important for the last few months of the season.”
