Derek McInnes and Aberdeen stars agree wage deferral as Dave Cormack salutes Dons unity

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes and his players are set to take wage deferrals as Dave Cormack puts a plan in place to get through the coronavirus crisis.

Chairman Cormack confirmed last month the club could be facing a £5million hole if there is no football before the end of the year.

Cormack is seeking investment but McInnes and his squad are ready to cut their wages in the short-term to take some financial pressure off.

Cormack said: “Everyone across the club is collaborating to ensure Aberdeen gets through this challenging period.

“There’s a willingness among directors and investors, management and staff, to pull together.

“It’s my hope we will be in a position to announce more details on our assumptions and how we address the funding gap later this week.”

Aberdeen commercial director Rob Wicks added: “There’s an important investor group that’s very much in the mix of
discussions we’re having.”

Wicks hopes to get some clarity on when football may resume from a UEFA meeting today.

He said: “We just have to wait on this holding pattern to break and get some clarity.”

Meanwhile, the board have pledged to pay from their own pockets 10 per cent of takings on season ticket sales to the AFC Community Trust.
