Derek Mackay cleared of criminality after sending 'creepy texts' to 16-year-old boy

Derek Mackay has been cleared of criminality after sending creepy messages to a 16-year-old boy.

We told how the SNP's former Finance Secretary sent 270 texts to the teenager.

The 42-year-old invited the boy to a rugby match and called him 'cute'.

Police say that after probing the incident 'there is nothing to suggest that an offence has been committed'.

Dad-of-two Mr Mackay quit his finance role on February 5 amid the scandal.

Among the findings were late-night texts Mr Mackay sent to the teen while he was on holiday with his partner.

Since news of the scandal broke, he has not made any appearances at MP surgeries.

Mr Mackay, from Bishopton, Renfrewshire served as Finance Secretary from 2016 until his resignation this year.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Record: "No report of criminality has been made to Police Scotland, however, we have carried out enquiries and assessed all of the available information.

"Based on this there is nothing to suggest that an offence has been committed.

"If anyone has any further information then they should contact Police Scotland on 101, or, in an emergency 999."
