Derek Fowlds remembered by Heartbeat creator's daughter as tributes flood in

The daughter of Heartbeat creator Peter N Walker has led tributes to the show's late star Derek Fowlds following his death aged 82.

Fowlds played police officer Oscar Blaketon in the ITV show, which was inspired by Walker's series of Constable books.

Following news of the actor's death, Walker's daughter Sarah shared a picture of him with her dad, who died in 2017, along with another late star of the show William Simons, who played PC Alf Ventress.

She wrote: "So sad that another of the Heartbeat stalwarts has passed way.

"Derek Fowlds was always a real gentleman, according to Dad. Here he is on set with these two lovely gents, all three lost within the past three years #derekfowlds #billsimons #mrheartbeat #heartbeat ."

She was joined by fans mourning the death of late telly star Derek, who also starred in political sitcom Yes Minster.

One tweeted: "He’s a great Actor & he’ll be sadly missed. Rest in Peace Derek Fowlds."

Another added: "Oh no how sad remember watching heartbeat with my mom such heartbreaking news RIP."

A third added: "So very sad to hear this. Spent many years watching him (and you) in #Heartbeat - #RIPDerekFowlds #RIPSarge Such a lovely man."

The actor died at Royal United Hospitals Bath in the early hours of Friday morning after suffering from pneumonia that led to heart failure caused by sepsis.

He was surrounded by his family when he died and is survived by sons Jamie and Jeremy.

Helen Bennett, his personal assistant and friend of many years, said: "He was the most beloved man to everybody who ever met him, he never had a bad word to say about anybody and he was so well respected, adored by everyone.

"You couldn't have met a nicer person ever, he was just a wonderful man and I will miss him terribly."
