Derek Chisora will refuse to retire despite fears over heavyweight's health

Derek Chisora has dismissed claims he should retire from boxing and is planning to return next summer after his defeat to Joseph Parker.

The British star was defeated by Joseph Parker in a heavyweight rematch which appeared to signal the end of his time fighting at world level.

He also took significant damage during the brutal war being knocked to the canvas three times despite showing real character to make the distance.

But Chisora is planning on returning to action this summer, tweeting : "F*** retirement. I’ll be back in the summer b****."

He later added: "But it's not happening yet (retirement), I did box with a broken finger but I don't care it is not happening yet."

Chisora has been called to retire by many inside the sport after his battering at the hands of Parker that left him stumbling desperately with seconds to go.

He wanted to try and force his way back into title contention with a revenge victory this weekend.

The British heavyweight has also spoken of his plans to complete trilogies with Dillian Whyte and Tyson Fury before the end of his career.

However Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has admitted it is hard to match the 36-year-old.

"It is difficult because he is not regressing in training," Hearn told Boxing Social. "He is not losing his punch resistance and he is still boxing well.

"But he is 36 and he is in a lot of tough fights so it is a decision between his loved ones who will say 'what do you want to do'. He loves this and he could fight anyone, Ruiz or Ortiz and still fill up the stadiums regardless.

"It was another tough night at the office but we will support him whatever he chooses to do, but I believe he will fight again next year I'm pretty sure of that."

Chisora has enjoyed a successful career but has lost his biggest fights, including to Fury, David Haye and Vitali Klitschko.

But his fights are almost always damaging due to his aggressive style with 12 of his outings ending in defeat.

He had success of his own against Parker and returned fire with fire after coming close to being stopped.

The New Zealander showed huge respect to the British star at the end of the fight who was roared on by a raucous crowd throughout the contest.

However he would like to see his opponent retire after his victory as a result of another damaging defeat.

“Derek always comes for war, he was one tough guy and never stopped coming forward until the end," Parker said after the fight.

"I felt a lot stronger. It was important to start strong and not be negative from the beginning. You can see there are improvements to be made. The crowd went mental when he walked out. They just want to support him.

"Personally I'd like to see him walk away. He has given boxing everything, but that's his decision."
