Derek Chisora vs Kubrat Pulev result: Who won the heavyweight rematch?

Derek Chisora beat Kubrat Pulev by split decision to avenge his 2016 loss to the Bulgarian and delight a home crowd at the O2 Arena.

This was a far more entertaining affair than the pair's first fight six years ago, with both boxers defying their age to put on a thrilling show in front of a sold-out crowd in London.

Chisora began the fight at a ferocious pace, giving his opponent a difficult time in the opening rounds as his movement was able to resist the punches of Pulev. However, the Bulgarian remained resolute in his defence despite taking a number of blows to the body from his opponent.

Just before the half-way mark of the fight, Chisora was able to inflict a nasty cut just under the left eye of Pulev before round 7, where the fight was brought to life with a huge overhand right from Pulev. This was perhaps the shot of the fight, although the action in every round was thrilling.

Pulev was hurt once more later in the fight, with blood coming from multiple cuts on his face to show what a tough battle he had been a part of. Chisora was put on the ropes more often by his opponent, but the big body shots from the fists of the UK boxer were key to keeping his opponent at bay and win the fight.

After calls for retirement in the build-up to the fight, Chisora was able to show fans why he has enjoyed such vocal support during his career with a brilliant display of skill against a very good opponent. The judges scored the fight 112-116, 116-112 and 116-114 in favour of the Finchley based fighter.
