Derek Chauvin guilty of all charges in murder of George Floyd

The police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck has been found guilty of murder after a high profile trial.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, 45, was fired after the fatal arrest last May.

Floyd, 46, desperately warned dozens of times he could not breathe as the officer knelt on his neck after he was arrested for allegedly using a fake $20 note at a grocery store.

His death in in Minneapolis sparked a wave of protests around the world.

In closing arguments on Monday, prosecutors told trial jurors to "believe your eyes" as they replayed video of Floyd's death beneath Chauvin's knee.

The former cop's defence team countered that Chauvin behaved as any "reasonable police officer" would, arguing that he followed his decades of training.

Chauvin denied all charges against him, including second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

He was found guilty of all charges by the jury who returned the verdict on Tuesday.
