Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said he saw plenty of potential and courage in Josh Jacobs last season.
"He played with some stuff and it really showed his toughness," Carr said on a Zoom call with his Valley Children's Healthcare DC4Kids supporters on Wednesday. "He's a super special player that can be a Hall of Fame-type player."
In his rookie season, Jacobs played 13 games but still had 242 carries and rushed for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns.
Jacobs injured his shoulder in Week 7 against the Packers, but continued to play through it until he was inactive in Week 14 and Weeks 16 and 17.
"What was crazy is when they told him he couldn't play his eyes filled with tears and he felt like he let the team down," Carr said.
Jacobs needed just eight games to break Marcus Allen's rookie club record (697 yards) while also surpassing the Hall of Famer for most 100-yard rushing performances (five) by a rookie in Raiders franchise history.
Jacobs was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month in October and November, becoming the first first player in franchise history to earn those honors.
Jacobs was up for Rookie of the Year honors won by quarterback Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals.
The Raiders are scheduled to open training camp July 28 in their new facility in Henderson and Carr said he can't wait to see Jacobs in person for the first time since the end of the last season.
"He'll come back and have another big year."
