In a move that was reported on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles officially exercised Derek Barnett’s fifth-year option.
The move will pay the talented but inconsistent pass rusher just under $10 million per Over The Cap.
Barnett, who has missed 12 games over the past two seasons, has 14 career sacks in brief career, far below the expectations for the former first-round pick.
The option keeps the 23-year-old Barnett under the Eagles cap structure for the next two years,
