Derek Barnett delivered a dirty hit that put Jamaal Williams in the hospital

Defensive end Derek Barnett had no business finishing the play like he did on running back Jamaal Williams. Because of Barnett’s reckless hit, he created a truly scary moment on Thursday Night Football in the Philadelphia Eagles’ game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.

Barnett flew into a scrum of three defenders who were holding Williams in place. While trying to finish the play, Barnett led with his head, and delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit to a stationary Adams.

There was no way around it: the hit was dirty.

Williams fell face-first to the turf, where he remained motionless for an unnervingly long time. Teammates immediately called for medial attention.

Barnett checked on Williams as the Packers’ medical team put the running back on a stretcher. Williams eventually gave a thumbs up on his way out of the stadium. He was transported to a local hospital, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Packers announced Williams had feeling and movement in his extremities.

Fans and media members held their collective breath while waiting to hear more news about his health.
