Derbyshire electronics firm agrees deal to move headquarters as part of expansion plans

An electronics specialist is relocating its Derbyshire headquarters as part of its expansion plans after agreeing a deal on a new building.

Stephen James Technologies is moving to Fitology House, in Smedley Street East, Matlock, from its previous base in the town.

The property, which has a floor space of almost 5,000 sq ft, was previously occupied by Balfour Beatty, which vacated the building after its lease expired.

Stephen James Technologies has signed a 10-year lease on Fitology House, in a deal secured by Derby commercial property agents BB&J Commercial.

Mark Richardson, partner at BB&J Commercial, said: “We were particularly pleased to agree this deal, as the demand for office space of this size in the locality is something of a niche market.

“Consequently, both BB&J and our clients are very happy that we have put this together.

“It goes to show that with the right marketing campaign tailored as necessary for every property it is possible to achieve a good result.”

Founded in 2000, Stephen James Technologies offers a comprehensive electronic, electrical, software and product design service to its clients.

Chris Keogh, senior agency surveyor at BB&J Commercial, said: “When the property became vacant last Christmas following the end of a long-term tenancy, we agreed with the landlord to initially undertake a soft marketing exercise over the festive period ahead of a full marketing campaign in the New Year.

“However, as a result of this approach, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of interest and were able to agree terms fairly quickly with SJ Technologies.

“As part of the tenancy the landlord agreed to commit to the various refurbishment and redecoration works required and our thanks go to AJ Coatings, Carpet Time, Europa Electrics, O Heap & Sons and Steve Brown Plumbing who all delivered an exemplary service and finish.

“Furthermore, we are grateful for the endeavours of John O’Connor of Fishers Solicitors who acted on behalf of the landlord and Glen McGlenaghan of Lovedays who represented the tenant.”
