Derby IT firm lands seven-figure funding package to aid growth

An award-winning Derby firm which delivers and maintains IT and unified communications solutions has secured a seven-figure funding package to support its future growth.

Xuper, which is based on the Wyvern Business Park, has been awarded the financial backing by Allied Irish Bank (GB).

The firm, which was founded in 1983, develops and delivers technology that enhances how people learn, teach, govern, deliver healthcare and do business around the world.

It has developed its own unified communications and collaborations platform for a wide range of business applications, including a secure digital consultations platform for the healthcare market.

Employing around 80 people, over the past 12 months alone, the company has invested heavily in software, personnel and hardware.

Now, it looks like that investment will continue withe the support of Allied Irish Bank.

One of the keys to the firm’s success was the merging with video conferencing firm Questmark. Now, working together as a single entity, they have come up with a product called Visconn, the success of which led the firm to be named the winner of the Excellence in Innovation Award at this year’s Derby Telegraph Business Awards.

Xuper intends to use the funding from Allied Irish Bank to continue its development of Visconn and Visconn Clinics, which combine cost-effective video conferencing, telephony, instant messaging and file sharing to improve productivity.

Sales are projected to continue to grow substantially, with plans to seek further complementary acquisitions, job creation and product launches, including a new solution, which enables patients to see and be seen by a medical professional in their own homes.

Since being bought outright by managing director Peter Grogan in 2014, Xuper, which was formed in 1983, has seen its annual turnover increase almost four-fold.

Mr Grogan said: “I’m proud to lead a great team. We are taking on the blue-chip organisations with local talent, local grit and enterprise.

“Allied Irish Bank (GB) is a great partner to help develop our current business and fund further suitable acquisitions.”

Dale Cowdell, relationship manager at Allied Irish Bank (GB)’s Nottingham Business Centre, said: “Xuper is an exciting and growing business in the IT and communications sector and a great example of the businesses we seek to back.

“From our first meeting with Peter and the team we could clearly understand their strategic aims and our funding package will assist Xuper to achieve further sales growth and improve its market share.

“We’re looking forward to building on our relationship with Peter and the team and backing them to achieve their dreams and ambitions.”
