Derby County suffer contract blow ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Derby County have been boosted by the news that Chris Martin will be available for their Pride Park clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday week.

Striker Martin was set to see his current Rams deal come to an end next week, but has agreed a temporary contract extension to enable him to complete the remaining Championship games.

There’s isn’t quite such good news for Nottingham-born and Reds fan Tom Huddlestone, who has so far been unable to extend his deal at Derby beyond June 30 and as it stands, will have left the club before Forest travel to Pride Park.

“Talks have been ongoing in recent weeks between the club and representatives of Tom Huddlestone,” The Rams said in a statement.

“Neither a temporary nor a permanent agreement could be reached to extend his contract beyond the end of June at this time.

“Given Huddlestone’s long-standing history with Derby County and his contribution both on and off the pitch, the club continues to remain in dialogue with the player and his representatives with the hope of coming to an agreement for him to remain with the club longer-term.”

Martin has netted 10 goals for Phillip Cocu's men so far this term, and the club say negotiations over a longer term deal for the 31-year-old Scot remain ongoing.

The Rams, meanwhile, have also extended the contracts of Craig Forsythe and Curtis Davies though Ikechi Anya will not be offered fresh terms and has left the club.
