Derby County suffer ban blow after Nottingham Forest clash

Derby County defender Craig Forsyth has been handed a three-match ban following an incident in last weekend's Championship clash with Nottingham Forest.

Forsyth was involved in a challenge with Forest's Philip Zinckernagel early on in the 1-1 draw at Pride Park Stadium.

The left-back went punished by referee Tim Robinson at the time but has now been suspended after the Football Association took retrospective action.

He will now miss the Championship fixtures against Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City.

"Craig Forsyth will be suspended for Derby County FC’s next three games after admitting a charge for a breach of FA Rule E1.1, which occurred during their EFL Championship fixture against Nottingham Forest FC on Saturday 28 August 2021, and accepting the automatic penalty," said the FA in a statement.

"The defender’s behaviour during the 5th minute of this match was not seen by the match officials at the time but it was caught on video and constitutes violent conduct."

Speaking about the incident on Sky Sports, former Derby striker Darren Bent said: "It's a red card.

"It's surprising as Craig Forsyth isn't like that normally. He's got lucky there because even when you look at in real speed; the intent is there and he's gone down with a bit of a stamp.

"Fortunately, VAR is not in the Championship because I think if it was then he would have got a red card there."

Forsyth set up Tom Lawrence to put Derby ahead in the match but Brennan Johnson's late strike earned Forest a share of the spoils.
