Derby County midfielder Mason Mount admitted that luck played a part in their dramatic 4-2 win over Leeds United .
The Chelsea loanee played an integral part role in the Rams’ victory, grabbing their second of the afternoon just 90 seconds after the half-time interval.
Harry Wilson and Jack Marriott later added to the scoreline to ensure Frank Lampard’s side came out 4-3 victors on aggregate, sealing a place at Wembley.
It was a dramatic comeback from Derby , who were inspired by a dramatic week of Champions League football.
Both Liverpool and Tottenham progressed to the final of Europe’s elite competition, despite finding themselves three goals down in their respective ties with Barcelona and Ajax.
Mount himself referenced those victories as inspiration for Derby, who finally broke their curse against Marcelo Bielsa’s side, at the perfect moment.
“I can’t put it into words,” the midfielder told RamsTV.
“You see Liverpool and Tottenham come back and do it and you have that belief before the game that it can happen.
“They were big goals, especially Jack’s. The first half was tough, they got a goal and we get one back.
“Coming out in the second half, we get another goal, a lucky goal, and then we get more. It’s such a tough place to come but we did it.”
The defeat was only Leeds’ sixth defeat at Elland Road all season; a promotion push that was very much built on the base of their strong home form.
Marcelo Bielsa refused to be drawn on his future after the match, although it is understood that the Whites have the option to trigger a one-year extension to keep him at Elland Road next season.
