Derby County striker Mason Bennett has apologised to fans for a video circulating on social media.
The forward, currently on loan at Millwall, has not referenced a specific clip but said sorry for a video that was “a private joke”, adding that he “didn’t mean any harm” to Rams supporters, report DerbyshireLive.
A clip, attributed to Bennett’s Snapchat account, has been shared on Twitter and shows a car passing by Derby’s Pride Park Stadium. The voiceover on the video said: “F*****g burn.”
Writing on Twitter, Bennett said: “The video that’s come out was a private joke, didn’t mean any harm to the derby fans. The club has been great with me and will always be greatful [sic]. I apologise if I’ve offended anyone.”
Bennett was involved in a high-profile incident in September when he pleaded guilty to drink-driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was sentenced to 180 hours of community service.
The 23-year-old played against the Rams' East Midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest, last time out in a 3-0 win for Gary Rowett's side on March 6.
Derby County are aware of the video but will not be commenting.
