Derby County players poke fun at Nottingham Forest's play-off failure

Derby County players past and present have not resisted the opportunity to poke fun at Nottingham Forest’s sensational collapse.

Forest’s dramatic collapse at the City Ground in the final 20 minutes against Stoke City saw them go from having a play-off semi-final this weekend to facing up to the prospect of yet another season in the Championship.

Derby’s tumultuous season may have been ended earlier in the season, that hasn’t stopped the likes of Duane Holmes, Martyn Waghorn and former player Craig Bryson from revelling in Forest’s failure

At the start of play, just as they did on Saturday at Barnsley, Sabri Lamouchi’s men needed just a point to assure themselves of a play-off tie, but things unravelled in dramatic fashion, and that was the signal for Bryson to have his say on social media.

When Tobias Figueiredo cancelled out Danny Batth’s opener in the second half, things looked to be going Forest’s way, with Swansea also being held at 10-man Reading.

However, a remarkable turn of events saw James McClean, Lee Gregory and a Nuno da Costa own goal seal a crushing 4-1 victory for Michael O’Neill’s Potters.

That, combined with Swansea’s eventual 4-1 win in Berkshire, meant it was the Swans that leapfrogged Forest into sixth place, and leave the Reds’ hopes of a Premier League return lying in tatters.

Rams fans were also quick to herald Chris Martin for his equaliser in the 97th minute against Forest at the beginning of July, a goal which in their view, stopped their arch-rivals from finishing inside the top six.
