Derby County man 'lucky' not to be sent off against Nottingham Forest

Former Derby County striker Darren Bent thinks Rams defender Craig Forsyth should have been sent off for his challenge on Philip Zinckernagel during the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Referee Tim Robinson did not punish Forsyth for the tackle on Zinckernagel in Saturday's East Midlands derby at Pride Park Stadium.

Tom Lawrence had put the Rams into an early lead but Brennan Johnson netted an equaliser for Forest in the closing stages of the match.

Bent, who scored 12 goals in 58 appearances during his time with Derby, reckons his old team should have been down to 10 men by that point.

"It's a red card," Bent said as a pundit on Sky Sports earlier today (August 28).

"It's surprising as Craig Forsyth isn't like that normally. He's got lucky there because even when you look at in real speed; the intent is there and he's gone down with a bit of a stamp.

"Fortunately, VAR is not in the Championship because I think if it was then he would have got a red card there."

Forsyth escaped any form of punishment for the stamp and it cost the Reds with the left-back spraying the ball to Tom Lawrence for the Derby skipper to fire home the Rams' opening goal.

Brennan Johnson rescued a point for the visitors on 82 minutes. Pulling away from a defender briefly, Johnson found space to meet Gaetan Bong's deep cross and squeeze a volley past Derby shot-stopper Kelle Roos.
