Derby County fans in meltdown and rage at Wayne Rooney as relegation fears intensify

Derby County fans began to turn on Rams boss Wayne Rooney as their relegation fears deepened with a 3-0 defeat at Preston North End.

Nottingham Forest's arch-rivals were soundly beaten at Deepdale in what was another miserable result for the Rams who are just one place above the Championship's bottom three.

To compound their fears, Rotherham, who are third-bottom, have three games in hand on Rooney's side and are four points behind them in the table.

And the seriousness of their situation after their defeat at Preston sparked a wave of criticism at the former Everton star who has overseen just one win in their last 12 games.

Rams fans took to Twitter and we took a look at what they had to say.

Raich Cooner: "Sometimes... You get what you deserve. Wembley onwards it's been the sharpest decline on and off the field. Tragic."

Robbie: "ROONEY OUT!"

Dale McNellis: "Pathetic saying it was a must-win game, the players didn’t show any fight should be ashamed."

Andy Davies: "Goodbye Championship football and hello Div 1. ROONEY out NOW.

KC Flanagan: "If I was married to Derby, tonight would be the night I moved out and booked in to a Travelodge. I’m sick of being continually let down. I’ve lost faith in their determination to try harder to make things better. To at least show that they care."

Richard: "Rooney out. Preferably before tomorrow."

Roy: "This team, players and management are a disgrace!!! Thrashed 3-0 by a team WHO HAVE NOTHING TO PLAY FOR!!!!!!!!!"

Cory Brian: "Rooney has to go, last 10 plus games have been disgusting. Most managers don't even get that much time! On bad results, I expect SM (Steve McClaren) to be back in charge soon knowing Derby!!"

Claire McBarnett: "I went to my first #DCFC match 44yrs ago and never recall a time I felt this miserable as a Rams fan. Something has got to give because however much it costs to get rid of some staff will be nothing in comparison to what we will lose next season in Division Three cos that's all it is."
