Derby County fans fear relegation as Nottingham Forest rivals left in chaos

Derby County have been plunged into chaos on fixture release day after it emerged the club could still be relegated to League One.

An independent disciplinary commission has fined the Rams £100,000 and ordered them to resubmit three years of accounts.

It relates to the ongoing saga regarding the Rams' policy regarding the amortisation of player registrations which the EFL say was contrary to standard accounting rules.

The Rams could still face a points deduction and relegation to League One if retrospective action is taken.

The EFL has the right to appeal the disciplinary commission's punishment as does the club.

Today, the EFL published an interchangeable fixture list for next season for Derby and Wycombe Wanderers, while the disciplinary process is finalised.

Forest are due to face Derby at the end of August in what is always a much-anticipated fixture and are then due to host the Rams at the City Ground in January.

And Rams fans had plenty to say after the late-night statement which will give Rams boss Wayne Rooney cause for concern.

Carl Porter: "How can you possibly get excited about the fixtures being released when we don’t even know what bloody league we’re going to be in come August. EFL should’ve had this all sorted before the fixtures were released makes a mockery of the whole thing."

Ed Dogavic: "I think you’ll find these are the fixtures for an alternative universe in which we have competent ownership."

Monty 1999: "At the time of release. We are still classed as a Championship club till something else is said."

Sproso: "We don’t have international breaks in League One."

Robert Simpson: "How can they swap Derby with Wycombe that close to the new season? Wycombe would be preparing for League 1 so the decisions they make will be different to if they had stayed up.

METwedds: "Just give us the punishment, no more appeals, no more dragging it out, get Morris out the club then start again. We have to start moving forwards

Alexrdfisher: "We all know that the EFL love to appeal everything. So, just get on with it. It’s ridiculous that a governing body would allow this ongoing limbo for two clubs."
