Derby County break silence on Scott Carson deadline day transfer to Man City

Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has revealed that it is 'possible' that goalkeeper Scott Carson signs for Man City on transfer deadline day.

It emerged on Thursday morning that City have made a move to sign veteran Carson in a season-long loan deal to improve their goalkeeping options.

Ederson remains Pep Guardiola's number one choice and Claudio Bravo will be his deputy after recovering well from injury and impressing in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

Yet City want a homegrown third choice with Premier League experience and former Liverpool and England stopper Carson fits the bill.

It's not the first surprising transfer deal Derby have been involved with this week after they announced the signing of Wayne Rooney earlier in the week and manager Cocu has commented on the Carson move.

"It is possible. Not confirmed yet," the Dutchman said.

"It would change the situation about our goalkeepers. So that’s something we’re working at, at the moment.”

City are expecting the deal to go through by the 5pm deadline and the move would suggest a loan move for youngster Daniel Grimshaw, who spent last season as third choice due to Bravo's injury but now needs game time.

Fellow goalkeepers Zack Steffen and Aro Muric have already headed out for loans, at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Nottingham Forest respectively.
