Derby County boss Frank Lampard 'in the running' for Brighton job

Derby County boss Frank Lampard is in the running for the Brighton and Hove Albion job, according to the bookies.

The early odds have the manager of the Reds’ arch-rivals as the second favourite to replace Chris Hughton at the AMEX Stadium.

Hughton was sacked from his role in charge of the Seagulls on Monday, despite having steered the club to Premier League survival for the second successive season.

He was axed a day after their campaign ended with a 4-1 defeat at home to Manchester City which saw the visitors crowned champions.

Swansea City chief Graham Potter is the bookmakers’ overwhelming favourite to take up the hotseat, with SkyBet pricing him at 1/3 on.

But former Chelsea midfielder Lampard is also heavily favoured, at 3/1, while Northern Ireland coach Michael O’Neill and England Women boss Phil Neville have also been linked.

Lampard’s name being mentioned comes as the Rams prepare for the biggest game of their campaign.

They make the trip to Elland Road on Wednesday night looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg of their play-offs semi-final against Leeds United.

Kemar Roofe scored the only goal of the game in the clash between the two sides on Saturday.

And ahead of their next meeting, with both sides chasing a Wembley final in a bid to reach the top-flight, Lampard has taken a dig at his team’s opponents.

“As a Chelsea player, there was a rivalry always with Leeds,” he said. “We didn’t play them that much because we were in the Premier League…”
