Derby County boss Frank Lampard clarifies situation over Bristol City, Celtic and Rangers target amid reports of embargo

Frank Lampard says he is unaware of any 'soft' transfer embargo involving Derby County.

Reports yesterday said that the Rams are under a soft embargo while the EFL go over their accounts - meaning they have not yet been able to sign Graeme Shinnie.

Shinnie, linked with Bristol City, held talks with Derby last week over the prospect of signing on a free transfer when his Aberdeen contract expires in the summer.

Speaking to Derbyshire Live , Lampard said there is nothing in the stories he has seen.

He said: "It’s massively important for the club but it’s not my job to go through the accounts!

"The stories I’ve seen, there’s nothing in it, for me.

"It hasn't affected my job. Until the summer, we can’t do any business anyway."

Whilst Lampard did not want to be drawn on Shinnie, who is also wanted by Celtic and Rangers, he said that the player cannot sign until the summer.

'I've come a long way' - Bristol City starlet on why a relegation battle at Rotherham has made him a better player

He said: "I don’t want to talk about Shinnie as he’s not our player.

"Our interest is obvious but he’s an Aberdeen player and I’ve got a lot of respect for (Aberdeen boss) Derek McInnes.

He added: "To be fair, I’ve only read reports about a soft embargo.

"If we want to sign Graeme Shinnie, we can’t do so until the summer.

"Obviously, I’m massively interested in what happens, because we need to do business in the summer.

"That’s something that the club will have to look at.”
