Derby chase Liverpool winger, Newcastle target Preston North End defender - Championship transfer rumours

With under two weeks until the 2019/20 Championship season kicks off, clubs up and down the country are scrambling to get their transfer business done.

Leeds United, Bristol City and Brentford have been the division’s biggest spenders, although some of that outlay has been balanced by several departures.

Helder Costa’s move to Elland Road remains the summer’s biggest transaction, following his £15m move from Wolves.

Recently-relegated Fulham, Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town have been relatively quiet in the window as they look to rebuild their squads following their Premier League exits.

With that in mind, we’ve collated all the latest rumours and gossip from across the Championship.

Derby chase Liverpool winger

Derby County have made an audacious attempt to re-sign Harry Wilson on loan, according to SportsMole.

The Liverpool winger starred for the Rams last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion.

Wilson was expected to join a Premier League side this summer but with his future still up in the air, Derby have made a move.

Wilson banged in 18 goals for Frank Lampard’s side as they finished sixth.

Newcastle target Preston defender

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce wants to make Preston North End’s Ben Davies his first signing.

The defender could be about to make the move to St James’ Park, with Bruce said to be a big admirer.

The Sun reports that the 23-year-old is one of their transfer targets as they bid to bolster their defence.

Cardiff chase £1m striker

Cardiff City are weighing up a £1m bid for Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy.

The 23-year-old scored 12 goals last season as they finished third in the Scottish Premier League table.

According to the Daily Mail, Neil Warnock has identified Brophy as the man to replace Kenneth Zohore, who has joined West Brom.

Brentford eye League One defender

Brentford are set to pay £1m for Blackpool defender Marc Bola, according to The Sun.

The Bees have been chasing the young defender, who was previously on the books of Arsenal.

The Tangerines have understandably set a price tag at £1m, with the defender a key man in their side.

Bola made 43 appearances for Blackpool last season.
