Deranged man runs over ex-wife with car, then hacks her to death with machete

NEW YORK _ A scorned man hacked his ex-wife to death with a machete in the Bronx Thursday _ after his attempt to run her over failed, police said.

The heartless ex-hubby showed up outside the 58-year-old victim's home on Ellsworth Avenue near Schley Avenue in Throgs Neck around 7 a.m., with violence on his mind, cops said.

He slammed his car into the woman's car as she was getting in and sent her flying, witnesses told police.

The creep then dragged the victim _ identified by sources as Noelia Mateo _ into the street for more carnage, bystanders said.

The ex-husband dragged the woman under her car, then got into her vehicle and backed it over her, police said.

"There was a person underneath the car, and there's a person behind that person trying to pull her out by the legs," neighbor Victor DiChristina, 78, recalled. "He backed over her completely and then ... he ran over her legs and whatnot."

When the woman rolled out from under the car onto the sidewalk in a desperate bid to save her life, her ex-husband hacked her repeatedly with a machete.

"Next thing I see, the sucker's there chopping away at her with a machete _ and I mean a machete," DiChristina said. "I'm yelling and screaming trying to stop him."

The elderly man called 911 as others gathered around the gruesome scene.

"I heard a bang, I came outside and I heard people screaming across the street," neighbor Richard Weinheim said. "I saw the body laying on the floor covered in blood."

His wife yelled for someone to get a blanket to cover the dying woman, Weinheim said.

"I feel bad for this poor woman. You don't take someone's life like that," he said.

The woman was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she died.

Residents said the woman was renting an apartment about a block away for a year and was often seen with a boy and a girl whom she took to school.

"It's unbelievable," DiChristina said. "I'm distressed very badly."

The killer drove off in the victim's car and is still on the loose, police said.
