You may have noticed that all is not well with the world. Leaving aside the economic and climate collapse, the planet feels like it’s teetering on the edge of a major conflict. We have Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Palestine, India/Pakistan, and Cambodia/Thailand all bubbling away and representing threats to world peace.
All of which means we need leadership. And any opportunity for world leaders to discuss peace in person must be cherished as an important opportunity. So, what did Donald Trump do during the unprecedented joint visit of European leaders to the White House to bolster Zelenskyy? Well, he thought it’d be important to tell them all about his… MAGA hat collection.
Yup. To visible boredom and some confusion, Trump waxed lyrical about his shelves full of various kinds of MAGA hats. There’s the now-traditional red “Make America Great Again” baseball cap, several “USA” ones in various colors, a “Gulf of America” hat, and, somewhat more ominously, “Trump 2028” and “4 More Years”.
It’s safe to say that literally everyone in that room has better things to do with their time than listen to an old man ramble on about his hat collection. However, unfortunately for everyone involved, this annoying geezer holds the balance of world power in his hands and can make or break Europe with the stroke of a pen. Or, to put it another way, they’d better pretend to be interested in these hats. Or else.
Constant embarrassment
But the verdict from Americans? This is “embarrassing and demeaning”:

But, let’s face it, we should all be very used by now the Donald Trump embarrassing and demeaning the United States in front of the world. It’s difficult to gauge how hard the world is laughing at the U.S.A. right now, especially as with the advent of chaotic tariffs, even a half-witted Trump can still destroy your economy on a whim. But let’s face it, you don’t see other world leaders talking guests through their chintzy gift shop set up in the corner of their house.
