The Prosecutors Commission unanimously approved the appointment of Kovit Sripairoj, a deputy attorney-general, as the country's 21st attorney-general, effective Oct 1.
He will replace incumbent Attorney-General Itthiporn Kaewthip, who reaches the mandatory retirement age of 65 at the end of this fiscal year in September and will move to the role of senior prosecutor.
The appointment will next be submitted to the Senate for approval under the Public Prosecutors and Prosecutors Act. Once endorsed, it will be forwarded for royal command.
Mr Kovit previously served as director-general of the Anti-Corruption Office, Region 8 Anti-Corruption Office and the Prosecutors Training Institute. He is also known for promoting organisational culture and training assistant prosecutors nationwide. He was elected a member of the Thai Bar Association Council.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ramkhamhaeng University and a master's degree in public administration from National Institute of Development Administration.
