Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill tests negative for coronavirus

Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill has tested negative for coronavirus and will continue to 'work remotely'.

Ms O'Neill has been isolating at her Mid-Ulster home after a family member tested positive for the virus.

In a tweet on Saturday morning, the Sinn Fein Vice-President said: "I have received my results and tested negative.

"I will continue to self isolate and carry out my ministerial duties remotely."

The deputy First Minister also had to be tested last week after developing what turned out to be a head cold.

The news comes as the Northern Ireland Executive tackles another surge in Covid-19 cases here.

Speaking yesterday, Robin Swann warned that “further restrictions for Northern Ireland are likely to be required in the very near future”.

The Health Minister made the claim in an ‘urgent’ written statement to the Assembly where he said Northern Ireland is facing a “grave” situation which is getting worse “on a daily if not hourly basis”.
