Deputies shoot, kill man after finding woman's body in Westmont

March 25--Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man they confronted early Wednesday after finding a woman's body in a Westmont alley, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released, fired several shotgun rounds at deputies, who returned fire and fatally shot him, said Deputy Grace Medrano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He died at the scene.

Deputies had responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of 106th Street and Vermont Avenue in South L.A.

When they arrived about 1:15 a.m., they found Lakeisha Glendora Lynall, 32, lying in the alley with a gunshot wound, said Sheriff's Lt. Victor Lewandowski. She died at the scene.

The man with the shotgun, Medrano said, was last seen on the northwest side of the alley, west of Vermont Avenue.

As deputies searched the area, they found the man at 102nd Street and Vermont Avenue and confronted him, leading to the exchange of gunfire and the man's death.

Investigators believe the man is Lynall's boyfriend, and is the suspect in her death. The two lived in the area.

"There was a conversation before the shooting, but we don't know what that was," Lewandowski said. "We don't know what sparked the violence."

Detectives recovered his shotgun at the scene and launched an investigation.
