Deputies investigate George Zimmerman after controversial tweet about ex-girlfriend

Dec. 05--Seminole County deputies are investigating whether a tweet sent from George Zimmerman's account constituted harassment of an ex-girlfriend.

The woman had filed a report with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office in late September, saying Zimmerman was sending inappropriate and harassing text messages to her and her 10-year-old son, sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Cannaday said.

The woman had dated Zimmerman for a few months, and broke up with him in September, records show. A few days after the break-up, the woman told deputies he started texting her and her son.

He called her "inappropriate names," deputies wrote in their report, and told her son that his father does not love him, records show.

He did not make any threats, deputies said.

Deputies took her report and told her to inform them if Zimmerman contacts her again, Cannaday said.

On Thursday, a photo of the woman appeared on Zimmerman's account. She appeared to be naked, though no explicit nudity was visible.

"She cheated on me with a dirty Muslim," the tweet said, listing the woman's phone number. "She'll sleep with anyone."

Zimmerman's Twitter account has since been suspended.

The woman contacted Seminole County deputies late Thursday night, Cannaday said.

"The photos themselves don't really rise to the level of a criminal act," Cannaday said. "However the unwanted communication, the harassing communication, is what's being investigated."

As of Friday night, no charges had been filed.

Zimmerman was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge in the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford.
