Deported Romanian father-of-six locked up for defying order to stay out of the UK

A Romanian father-of-six has been locked up for defying orders to stay out of the UK where he organised a fraud.

Telus Dumitru, 45, was caught in Radford on Monday after being sent home following his release from a prison term of over four years. At the time, £70,000 was confiscated from him.

City magistrates heard that he was stopped when trying to enter the UK on September 8.

Lee Shepherd, prosecuting, told the court: "He uses a number of aliases.

"Ten days later, he was at the port of Calais attempting to enter the UK. He was refused entry but has come in via another route."

On Monday, October 7, he was seen by two plain clothes police officers as he walked through Radford.

"In interview, he accepts that he has entered the country via Ireland where he said no checks were made and he entered without detection.

"His previous record is of a serious fraud, a conspiracy to commit fraud, for which he received 56 months prison," added Mr Shepherd.

A 16-week prison term was imposed on Dumitru, who gave his home address a Haslemere Road, Nottingham. He pleaded guilty to entering the UK in breach of a deportation order on October 7.

Magistrate Josephine Joynes told him: "This offence is very serious.

"You have made previous attempts to come in and we believe you did it knowingly."

James Buckley, mitigating, told the court that Dumitru is married with six children aged from four months to 17 years.

"The reason why he wanted to return to the UK was that he wanted to be with his family.

"To get his family from the UK to Romania presents great logistics difficulties.

"He realises he has done wrong in returning to the UK but is appealing against the deportation order," added Mr Buckley.

Dumitru was told he will be deported again at the end of his current sentence. Until the deportation case is decided, he was told that he must stay out of the UK.
