The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has granted Greater Manchester with a £13m funding boost to help people find work.
The funding was given to a project called Work and Health Programme Job Entry: Targeted Support (WHP JETS), which offers support - including CV writing and jobs searching - for the recently unemployed and is expected to help around 13,200 people in the city region.
The scheme, available to people who have been unemployed and in receipt of benefits for at least 13 weeks, is due to launch in early October and will run until March 2022.
WHP JETS, approved by Greater Manchester leaders earlier this month (September 2), forms part of its Working Well programme, which provides long-term unemployed people with support.
Councillor Sean Fielding, portfolio lead for digital, education, skills, work and apprenticeships, said: “It’s great that the Government has recognised the achievements of our already successful Working Well programme and now with this funding the scheme can expand to help recently unemployed people in the city-region.
“The coronavirus pandemic has had a detrimental impact on our local economy and it is vital those affected are given support to find employment again as soon as possible.
“The programme is expected to help people secure employment after taking part in the scheme for six months, which will also aid the city-regions recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic.”
