Deonte Harris gets Saints on the board early with 53-yard punt return TD

[Corrections & clarifications: This post has been updated to correct the site of Assumption College.]

Well that didn’t long. The New Orleans Saints got off to a good start, forcing the Seattle Seahawks to punt on their first possession. Things got better when rookie returns specialist Deonte Harris found a lane to return that punt 53 yards for a touchdown, putting the Saints up 7-0 before the offense even took the field. It’s early in just his third game, but Harris has already gained 107 yards on punt returns.

Not bad for an undrafted rookie out of Assumption College in Massachusetts. He’s come a long way from playing in front of crowds of just 2,000 to 3,000 spectators, now making an impact in front of 70,000 roaring fans in the NFL. Check out the highlight reel-worthy play where it’s embedded below, or at this link:

We’ll see if the Saints can keep up this momentum, but they couldn’t ask for a better start to what looks like a months-long stretch without starting quarterback Drew Brees.
