Deonte Harris chooses Saints over Bengals in undrafted free agency

The Cincinnati Bengals have seemingly cobbled together a quality undrafted free-agent class — but they didn’t get everyone they wanted.

One player the Bengals apparently targeted was wide receiver Deonte Harris out of Assumption College, but the return specialist instead chose to sign with the New Orleans Saints.

“I also had an offer from the Bengals but I thought the Saints were a better fit for me,” Harris said, according to Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun.

The Bengals can’t complain too much — he’s right. Wide receiver is one of the team’s deepest positions with A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and John Ross up front. Alex Erickson is a core part of the team’s depth and on special teams, Josh Malone is a pick they would still like to see pan out and the same applies to Auden Tate. That’s six right there before adding an undrafted hopeful like Stanley Morgan.

Still, it would have been interesting to see Harris come to town. The 5’6″, 175-pound returner scored 45 touchdowns in college, with 14 of those coming on returns.
