Deontay Wilder will not take step-aside money to set up Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua ahead of schedule

Deontay Wilder has no plans to step aside for a heavyweight super fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in a revised boxing calendar in 2020.

Last week, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told Standard Sport that the third fight between Fury and Wilder could be scrapped to pave the way for a reunification fight between Joshua and Fury.

But Wilder’s promoter Bob Arum, when asked of the prospect of accepting a multi-million-pound deal to step aside, said: “Absolutely none.

“Wilder wants to fight Fury again. He’s not indicated to us or anybody else that he would be willing to step aside. So as far as we’re concerned, we’re thinking ahead to a third Fury-Wilder fight.”

Arum said he expected Joshua’s next fight against Kubrat Pulev, scheduled for the end of July at Tottenham Stadium, would be put back, paving the way for a potential Joshua-Fury fight into 2021, potentially in February.
