A rematch been Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will be confirmed as early as this week, according to the WBC champion’s manager.

In January, the WBC officially ordered a rematch between the heavyweights after their thrilling split decision draw in December that saw Wilder retain his title, despite many giving the fight to the challenger Fury.

Speaking to ESPN, Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel said: “Things have gotten delayed a little, but as far as I know there are no issues. I would hope the fight is completed this week or early next week.”

After ordering the rematch in January, the WBC announced both camps had until February 5 to agree financial terms or a purse bid would be conducted by the governing body.

But given the smooth nature of talks between the Wilder and Fury camps, the WBC have granted an extension.

"I have been in direct communication with both parties and they have indicated that they are in goodwill negotiations, very close to reaching an agreement," WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said. "I will monitor this matter personally and if needed will intervene within the next week."

New York has been tipped as one possible destination for the hugely anticipated rematch in May. Anthony Joshua is also heading to the Big Apple, making his US debut against Jarrell Miller on June 1.
