Deontay Wilder told his career is "finished" by trainer he brutally sacked

Deontay Wilder has been labelled a one-trick pony whose career is "finished" following his defeat by Tyson Fury.

Wilder was stopped by Fury 12 months ago as he lost for the first time as a professional and relinquished his heavyweight world title.

He subsequently concocted a string of ludicrous conspiracy theories, including that his coach Mark Breland had spiked his water during the fight.

Breland was sacked from Wilder's team having thrown the towel in during the seventh round when the champion was on the verge of being knocked out.

And having kept his counsel ever since, Breland has now broken his silence to claim Wilder will never recapture his former glories.

"My whole thing with Deontay is part of boxing I guess," he told the Fight Is Right podcast. "His career is done now, I'm done and he's done, I'm done with him.

"He's got a lot of power but that's all, I wish him well and that's it.

"He's only got his power and we'll see how far that takes him. That's all I'm going to say.

"I'd been working with him since he turned pro and nothing had happened until [the defeat].

"Some people cant take a loss; don't blame everybody else, go back and think about yourself."

Wilder has not fought since having been left in the cold when Fury walked away from their trilogy fight.

The rivals were due to clash for a third time last summer but the bout was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was further cancelled on October 3 and December 19 before Fury opted instead to pursue a fight with fellow world champion Anthony Joshua.

The two Brits are set to clash this summer in the Middle East while Wilder attempts to plot a way back to boxing's summit.
