Deontay Wilder still has a chance against 'elusive' Tyson Fury, says Mike Tyson

Deontay Wilder could still beat Tyson Fury when the pair go at it for a third time claims former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

The American was ringside at the MGM when Fury stopped Wilder for the first time as a professional in February.

The Gypsy King was denied a fairytale return to the sport when his first bout with Wilder ended in a controversial draw in December 2018.

But Fury got the better of his opponent 14 months later, although Tyson didn't think Wilder showed up as the same fighter he had done previously.

He said on Instagram : "He's (Fury) different because he's like 6'9 but he's really elusive - I just wish him the best of the luck.

"He (Wilder) didn't fight the same fight as he fought the first time round. The first fight he fought with confidence like he could win but this time he didn't have any zest or life in him.

"I just don't think he was the same fighter after the first fight, he couldn't rise to the occasion.

The pair are set for a trilogy fight, although the global coronavirus pandemic has put the bout in doubt.

Fury looks to have Wilder's number and will target an all-British fight with Anthony Joshua before retiring.

But Tyson admits his compatriot shouldn't be discounted with the outcome very much resting on whether he can bounce back.

He added: "There's always a chance, everyone always has a chance. It just depends how much he wants to put into it."

Wilder has blamed his defeat on his ring walk costume which supposedly weighed him down before the fight.

“It’s my own fault," he said. "My uniform I wore was very heavy for me. I had no legs from the first round on."
