Deontay Wilder's trainer explains real reason for lack of respect to Tyson Fury after KO

Deontay Wilder’s trainer has explained why his fighter snubbed Tyson Fury following their trilogy bout in Las Vegas.

The Gypsy King came out victorious for the second time over his opponent after securing an 11th-round stoppage, having also beaten in February 2020 following a draw in their first meeting.

Fury had to come back off the canvas twice during the fourth round, but made Wilder pay as he sent the Bronze Bomber down three times on his way to victory.

Following the fight, Fury attempted to offer his opponent a hand in a show of respect, but took issue with Wilder’s response.

Fury said: "I went over and said well done and he said he didn’t want to show any sportsmanship or respect. Very surprised by that. He’s an idiot.

"Sore loser. To be a top fighting man you need to show guts and respect and he didn’t do that tonight. He couldn’t do it.

"I pray for him. I am thankful that we all get out of the fight in one piece and get to go to our families."

Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has now explained what was behind his man’s actions, revealing the Bronze Bomber still had issues with Fury that he’d held over from before the fight.

"Deontay looks at Fury as a man he had serious issues with concerning allegations and things he'd seen,” Scott told ESNEWS.

“After they released all that energy, he still felt the way he felt."

Wilder himself conceded after the fight that his efforts weren’t enough after suffering his second defeat to Fury, with questions now over what the future holds for him after losing his title last year.

He said: “I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight. I’m not sure what happened. I knew that he didn’t come in at 277lbs to be a ballet dancer.

"He came to lean on me, try to rough me up and he succeeded.”
