Deontay Wilder reacts to Dillian Whyte failed drugs test before Oscar Rivas fight

Deontay Wilder claims Dillian Whyte could be sued by Oscar Rivas over his failed drugs test.

Whyte tested positive for anabolic steroids before his win over Oscar Rivas last Saturday to become the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title.

Neither Rivas nor the WBC were told of Whyte’s positive sample and Wilder claims they endangered the Colombian’s life.

“I think they could be facing a major lawsuit because they put Rivas’ life at risk and didn’t tell him,” he said.

“I think this is the worst time for this to come out in a week when we’ve had two deaths in boxing.

“If history was not a reality check, this week definitely is a reality check. We’re risking our lives in there. We risk our lives for people’s entertainment.”

Whyte served a two-year ban for failing a test in 2012 and Wilder says he should he clobbered with a long suspension.

“They think ‘I’m going to do it until I get caught because I know the ban isn’t long’,” said the unbeaten American.

“If you look at a six-month ban, that’s just regular protocol. Most fighters fight every three to six months, that’s regular protocol. So banning someone for six months, that’s no justice.

“You’ve got to give them a stiffer ban and if they do it three times, then they should be banned for life.

“You’ve got to remember this is his second offence, what’s he going to blame this on?

“Energy drink this time? I can’t wait to hear his excuse.

“When he was announced as my mandatory, I was happy because we were finally going to fight.

“I was going to say I feel sorry for him, but he knew what he was doing, he knew what he was taking.”
