Deontay Wilder mixes up Batley and Manchester in takeaway grand opening blunder

The American fighter, 33, arrived in Batley where he was greeted by delirious fans outside Mr T’s burger bar.

But in a tweet he appeared to be confused about where he was. The heavyweight world champion posted a video titled “Manchester @Mr_Ts”.

And he wrote: “#Manchester#Batley is lit right now. Thanks to all my UK fan for the continuous love you give. What an amazing time every damn time from start to finish you guys don’t stop.”

And in a second video of him leaving in his SUV, he declares: “Still here baby, Manchester, London… we’re still here…crazy man.”

Deontay, who calls himself “the baddest man on the planet”, had earlier jumped out of the vehicle wearing black sunglasses and a black T-shirt, screaming “Bomb Squad” referring to his nickname Bronze Bomber.

After opening Mr T’s, he posed for selfies while eating a burger and drinking milkshake in the boxing-themed restaurant.

Owner Tauseef Malik had booked the star.

Quite how Deontay mistook the quiet West Yorkshire market town, with its population of around 38,000, for bustling Manchester and its 530,000 inhabitants, is anyone’s guess.

But it seems the locals were not bothered by Thursday’s blunder.

In fact he delighted staff at hair salon Prity, Bradford, where he dropped in for a visit after they invited him.

Marketing assistant Fatima Patel said: “A men’s service is being launched so Deontay was the first to try it. It’s designed for active people in training like him.

“Besides, I’m sure it was more relaxing than being in the ring and getting knocked about.”

And at least he got the right salon…
