Deontay Wilder confirms retirement plans after Tyson Fury KO defeat

Deontay Wilder will not retire after his second loss to Tyson Fury and will continue to compete in high-level fights.

The Bronze Bomber's trainer, Mailk Scott, confirmed the news that Wilder will continue to fight after suffering defeat this past weekend.

Wilder fought bravely in an explosive battle in Las Vegas, getting up off the canvas four times in the third, seventh, tenth and eleventh rounds as he lost to Fury in their trilogy fight.

But he showed his power flooring the champion twice, and making him work exceptionally hard for a late stoppage victory in what has been described as one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all-time.

A long-term friend of Wilder, Scott has confirmed that he will remain in the ring, despite being "financially secure" from the sport.

Speaking to iFL TV, Scott said: "Deontay has set his family financially secure so he doesn't have to fight to make a living.

"But retiring is not in his plans at all and not something we've discussed. He will be back in any form he wants to be," said Scott. "He's a big-time fighter and he doesn't belong down there with the other guys, he needs to be in high-level fights and main events.

"Deontay Wilder was great on Saturday, but Tyson Fury was even greater - it was a great night of boxing for the heavyweight division.

"You have to give Fury credit for having a good chin and getting up. Fury is a legend and one of the best in the heavyweight division in any era, and it's the same about Deontay."

After an exceptional comeback in the fourth round in which Wilder looked like he was close to being knocked out himself, the American came close to knocking Fury out.

Fury would survive however, and went on to dominate as Wilder struggled from the fifth round on wards as he suffered prolonged punishment at the hands of Fury, finally keeping the American down in the eleventh.

And such was his beating, the former champion was taken to University Medical Center to be looked over.

Wilder has now returned home, and faces an uncertain break period from the sport to recover from another defeat.

Wilder's post-fight reaction prompted an angry response from Fury, who labelled his action as a lack of respect .

But the 'Gypsy King' was in a joyous mood, and promised to celebrate before deciding his next move with Dillian Whyte or Oleksandr Usyk coming up.
