Deolali police catch six people, recover country-made firearms

NASHIK: The Deolali Camp police have arrested six people from the Deolali Camp area and recovered two country-made firearms and three live cartridges.

The suspects were produced before a city court, which remanded them in police custody for three days. Police said that details of why the six people were carrying firearms would be revealed after investigation.

Sub-inspector S S Padvi of the Deolali Camp police station, who is investigating the case, said that they received information at around 1 am on Friday that a group of people had gathered near a restaurant in the Vijay Nagar area of Deolali Camp.

As soon as they received this information, senior inspector of Deolali Camp police station Kundan Jadhav prepared different teams and dispatched them to the area to find out what was happening.

The police teams laid a trap and detained six persons from the spot. On frisking the suspects, the police found two country-made firearms from them, apart from three live cartridges.

Padvi said that the total worth of the seized firearms and cartridges was Rs 53,000. “During the course of investigation, we will find out the purpose of the six people coming together late in the night with firearms and also from where they got the weapons,” he told TOI.
